The 2008 Nelscott Reef is set to go off Sunday Nov. 30th, 2008. Tentatively the forecast looks to be around 16ft. Mark Sponsler is forecasting 16 - 17ft faces for Sunday and offshore winds. Looks as though it won’t be the biggest Nelscott yet but could still be classic.

If all you competing longboarders didn’t get your fill at the Cape Kiwanda Longboard Classic, well The Gathering is just around the corner. The 6th annual Gathering will be held on September 6th and 7th at South Beach State Park in Newport, OR.
Deadline for registration is August 20th and there will be no beach registrations.

The 10th annual Cape Kiwanda Longboard Contest is on for August 2nd and 3rd, 2008. The contest will be held on the beach in Pacific City, Oregon, the site of the recent dory boat incident. The contest is for longboards only, 9′ and up. Contestants will be judged on three criteria: size and quality of wave, length of ride, and maneuvers the rider can complete. Saturday night features live music, food and beverage vendors on the beach.
The 6th Annual CSO Open is set for June 28th and 29th in either Road’s End, Nelscott, Gleneden Beach or Otter Rock, Oregon - depending on the conditions. Proceeds of this year’s contest will go to benefit North Bend surfer Gary Smither who has battled cancer last past year.
